![]() ![]() If you are desperately short of maintenance materials, you can also cycle through them before any generator deteriorates to the point where it actually requires maintenance. ![]() If you have an energy shortage, you can temporarily open them if necessary. While closed, they do NOT deteriorate, which means they have no maintenance cost. They are very costly, but a great long-term investment. If you play as a rich sponsor, consider bringing a few Stirling Generators. Don’t build that Moxxie several Sols before you ferry in first your colonists. Build in moderation and do not exceed your requirements (too much). So be VERY careful with what you construct during the early days of your colony – an unnecessary battery during the early game might cost you 5+ Polymers by Sol 20. ![]() Some indicators for a lack of drones are: goods piling up, extractors stopping to work because stone isn’t hauled away, rockets taking a long time to load, unload or refuel and maintenance or repairs taking longer than expected.īuildings deteriorate and require maintenance goods, even when they are disabled or not used. Once you have your basic infrastructure in place and start to expand your colony, you will need additional drone hubs – and more drones at existing ones. If you have multiple drone hubs, you can place a depot in their overlapping range – this will allow your drones to more evenly distribute materials across the colony. Make sure that you have enough depots to store goods, and make sure that they are spread out through your colony to reduce transport distances. Try to bring at least one science rover along if you can – it will make the early game a lot easier. Analyzing them will give you extra tech options, free research or other random benefits. When scanning sectors you will find plenty of anomalies. Given that manpower is in short supply throughout the early game, this is an excellent method to gather iron during the early game. If you use the CREATE TRANSPORTE ROUTE button (or however it is called now), the rover will even automatically go back and forth between the two selected points and gather all surface deposits within range (until there are none left). They are revealed after scanning a sector and can be collected by a Transport Rover. There are plenty of surface deposits for Iron (and sometimes Polymers) on the map. Don’t use more cables or pipes than necessary. Creating a massive single network for everything will cause frequent leaks, costing you resources and keeping drones needlessly busy. The larger a network becomes, the higher the chance for cable and pipe faults. Both are perfectly viable ways to play the game, but they require very different strategies.Ģ) You can build cables and pipes on the same tile!ģ) Don’t create large cable and pipe networks! The other way is to play score-attack style and trying to get as many points as possible by completing objectives as quickly as possible on as high of a difficulty as possible. So, mongodb maybe not Obsolete (it's popularity would attest otherwise if nothing else), but id take a better option if I were able. The main difference between these two is that SQL databases, also called Relational Databases (RDBMS), have relational structure and NoSQL doesn’t use relations. ![]() MongoDB can manage structured and unstructured data. Databases For my analysis I used 4 databases: MySQL PostgreSQL Redis MongoDB Here we have both SQL and NoSQL databases. Databases in particular can be a bit tough if we’re unsure how our data is going to be used. Choosing the right tech to solve a problem can be a harrowing experience. Rather than storing data in tables, MongoDB stores its data in collections of BSON (Binary JSON) documents. 13 min read Christina Kopecky One of the things that we may struggle with as developers when working on a green field project is our stack. Pg/jsonb is powerful, and if you have someone willing to be a db admin postgres is extremely powerful. PostgreSQL MongoDB is a scalable and flexible NoSQL document database. And once you're at medium to large, the mongodb pain of transactions as a second class citizen, lack of data integrity options, schema fluidity, and overall less strict structuring makes Pg much more appealing. And imo there aren't that many hardcore document only problems at the small or even medium size. It also has an enterprise edition that provides more features and functionality. That said, for the aforementioned side project, a few nights got me the basic pieces of the API in place (next big step is the aggregation pipeline, which id argue is intermediate for mongodb and much less used), so it's not hard to adapt a codebase to pg/jsonb. As any database administrator knows, the first question you have to ask yourself is whether to use a SQL or NoSQL database for your application. Those two things mean you _can_ move faster than with postgres (with the same relative amount of knowledge) Get the latest insights on our supported databases MySQL, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Redis, and many others to see which database management systems are most favored this year. ![]() Also, operationally, mongodb is easier to run, between Atlas and having more clustering capabilities available for "easy". the mongodb API is the defacto "standard" API for document dbs as far as I can tell, and realistically SQL is a notable barrier for application devs. for a problem thats truly document oriented workloads mongodb still seems more efficient, if not in literal performance then in scope and understandability. I guess I've also got a few nights on a project to make a mongodb compliant API for postgres jsonb in python. My background here is just a user of both, nothing too deep or profound. ![]() |
